We Interrupt This Broadcast....

Yeah, I know I promised a post about drunken teens, fake hooters and daisy dukes at the concert. I'll get to it. My mind is elsewhere today.

I quit smoking last week...yes, cigarettes, not crack. I've wanted to do it for a while, tried several times and hadn't been successful. Between my family history of heart disease and the lung I kept trying to cough up I had enough reason to quit. But when the little princess who rules your world starts to mimic your smoking...it's time to stop for good. See Princess below...

I knew it would be hard I just wasn't aware of how hard it would be. There have been moments when I would have sold my soul for a cigarette. Hell, there have been moments when I would have sold your souls for a carton. I have a new found admiration for anyone that has kicked an addiction (and no, your $6 a day Starbucks habit doesn't count). If you've never done it I don't know that you can understand the cravings and I'm not really sure I can even explain them to you.

Anyway, I wanted to apologize for not commenting on your blogs like I normally do. The lack of nicotine has adversely affected my thought pattern. It resembles this now:

want a cigarette, want a cigarette, want a cigarette, damn I'm horny, want a
cigarette, want a cigarette, want a cigarette, oooo cookies, want a cigarette,
want a cigarette, want a cigarette, [cursing over latest source of
annoyance], want a cigarette, want a cigarette......

Evidently, the nicotine addiction was hiding my nymphomania, ability to eat large quantities of sugar, and the ability to cuss in 5 languages!!! Who knew?

If I could cuss in 5 languages by quitting Diet Coke, I might actually try harder! These addictions are SOOO hard. Good wishes.

Thank you, hon. I HAVE to give up cigarettes but my Diet Coke they'll pry out of my cold, dead hands. ;) The addictions are incredibly hard to overcome....one day at a time!

I quit smoking two years ago. I agree---give up diet coke?! NEVER!! *Insert evil laugh* lol

It's tough...I just trained myself to hurry and get busy doing something else...after 10-12 mins. you can beat a craving. Now, 2 years later, I only get the craving maybe once every few months...

You can do it...I know you can :-)

Way to go!!!

RG - Thank you so much for saying that. People tell me that they still have cravings years afterward, I was hoping it wasn't daily still. If that was the case, I'd have to think twice about this. I'm not sure I could deal with it daily for the rest of my life. Congrats on 2 years!!!

JD - Hey...maybe my oral fixation has improved my oral abilities???? Now, how would I find that out????? lol ;)

I've been battling nicotine since New Years... gum, patches, lozenges, and now Chantix. It's really pissin' me off!

Rick - Luckily, I have motivation. Every time I think of that little cutie picking up a cigarette, I get nauseous. Stick with it. It WILL get better! It has to... :)

You can do it Angie, the trick is not killing anyone in the process!

Gary - Yeah, I was a little worried about going downtown last weekend...but I really never felt the urge.

JD - Yeah, but what a way to go. lol.

Poet - Hey, girl. I'll fix the link the next time I post. Thanks for the encouragement.

Well quitting smoking is a good thing, especially if you discover you're multilingual.

Who's the princess? Is she a relative?

You can buy cookies everywhere too. And just in case your desires overtake you, you do still have the number of that cable guy, right?

I'm sitting here at this very moment eating a cookie for breakfast...;)

I think it's awesome that you quit! Keep up the good work and whatever you do DO NOT kid yourself into the ol' "Oh, I'll only smoke on weekends!" or "I'll only smoke one or two a day." because it does not work. I quit smoking for almost 10 years and convinced myself I could smoke a few while we were on vacation with some friends (everyone I was with was a smoker...that was BAD!!)

That was several years ago...and I'm still smoking now....at least until I quit again!

X - Ooooo, the cable guy, I forgot about him! *shuffles papers on desk looking for phone number*

That's my goddaughter, Parker. We are related, but it's so far removed there's no name for it! Even though she doesn't live with me, I finally know what it's like to have kids. I'd give my own life for that child to live one more day.

SJ - Thanks, hon! Who said I was kidding about being a nymho???

PQ - Yep, I had quit for 5 years at one point. I had a really stressful job and my co-workers smoked. One day I reached my limit, bought a pack and started up. Been smoking ever since. That was, ummmm...probably 15 years ago.

Good for you! I'll be quitting after my surgery. I figure that since I'll have to go a couple of days minimum without one, it is the perfect time.

Robb - And you'll have good drugs to help you through the first few days!! eeewww, you sick & without nicotine...remind me to rescue the kids. Seriously, call if you need support.

Angie..

I feel your pain.. I quit no problem with all 4 of my pregnancies.. then started back the minute they were weaned.. about 3 yrs ago I quit again for about 3 months..then I took a trip to FL ..my car broke down.. my ex had to come get me.. and I wound up spending a week with him and my mom.. it is a wonder I didn't come back home drinking as well..but I did start smoking again.. best of luck to you... I think I could give it up again if I wanted to.. but there is NOTHING that will make me give up my coffee.. and I don't think anyone that knows me would want me too.. that would be ugly...

Take Care

Tammy - Oooo, coffeee...no way I'd give that up! I'm a bear in the morning without it. One day you'll be ready to quit smoking again. It's just about finding the right motivation.

I have a friend who was an alcoholic who smoked and drank about 6 mountain dews a day. First he quit the alcohol. A year later, he quit the cigarettes. Then immediately after that, he tried to quit the Mountain Dew. Oh man...I can't even describe how much of a bastard he was at that moment. I brought him a ton of MD and said, look. Drink it. Enough's enough. We're all proud of you--and so's your liver and your lungs--for what you've done so far. Now drink the damned caffiene. Haha! I wish you the best of luck quitting. I have watched so many people quit it and come back, so I know it's gotta be exceedingly difficult to give it up. Your reasoning is sound, though...when a little one looks up to you enough to mimic your behavior, it's time to quit not just for you but for others. May you get laid and find a large chocolate stash to make this time easier!

I quit smoking and it was VERY hard. I smoked a lot in my early 20s. Then I sort of smoked on and off for years. I finally quit for good when I had my girls. I never want them to see Mommy smoke.

Great decision. (I hear those lozenges help the most)

I wish you well Angie, I know it's hard. Very hard. You can do it. We are behind you (now that didn't help a damn bit really, did it?)
Hugs, honey!

Kira - Oooooo, getting laid AND chocolate...It's like Christmas!

Laura - I haven't tried the lozenges. I do know that the gum tastes like...well, it's beyond description. I'll just say it's really bad.

Cakes - Actually, it does help. The more people that know, the more I feel the need to stick with it. It's great motivation.
